Custom made in Vermont quality furniture
I hand-make furniture in my shop on a commission basis. I use
fine quality solid hardwoods, or good veneers where it makes
sense. I use local woods as well as non-native varieties. Maple,
cherry, red and white oak, walnut, and cedar are favorites. I use
glued mortise and tenon joinery, as well as biscuits to reinforce
glued-up tops (this joint is stronger than the surrounding wood).
Pieces are made with due planning for the seasonal changes in
wood, so longevity is assured.
Almost any finish is available, but I try to avoid VOC's.
My own preference is for the natural color of the wood, with
perhaps an oil rub protected by polyurethane. Wax is a more
eco-friendly but higher maintenance choice.
We can use your plans or mine or modify any item to your likes.
You can choose the wood and the finish or I'll make a suggestion.
